If you have depression anxiety you should not skip breakfast.  Skipping breakfast can worsen your depression anxiety symptoms, ruin the rest of your day, and prevent recovery.

A 1998 research study published in JAMA, of children who received school breakfasts, found that children who ate breakfast had less depression anxiety symptoms, compared to children who did not eat breakfast.

In the longitudinal follow-up analyses, students who increased their school breakfast participation showed the greatest academic improvements in their math grades, attendance, and punctuality. These children also demonstrated the greatest improvements in functioning on standardized measures of depression and anxiety as reported by students and hyperactivity as reported by teachers.

A more recent study, published in July 2013, found that older men who skipped breakfast had a 27% higher risk of heart attack.

The reason why eating breakfast is important for depression anxiety recovery, and overall health, is because not only does breakfast provide your body and brain with the nutrients and energy it needs to properly perform throughout the day, breakfast also regulates your blood sugar levels.

Maintaining blood sugar levels, avoiding blood sugar spikes and crashes, helps avoid depression anxiety symptoms.  After a night of fasting, your body and brain needs food to convert into nutrients, sugar and energy.  Denying your body and brain the nutrients, sugars, and energy it needs, can result in hypoglycemia, and anxiety symptoms and panic attacks.

While any breakfast is better than no breakfast, if you have depression anxiety, there are breakfasts that help your recovery and breakfasts that can hurt your recovery.

A breakfast of pancakes, covered in butter and sugary syrup, with a side of bacon contains several ingredients, gluten, unrefined sugar, lactose, nitrates, preservatives and additives, which can damage your gut and worsen your depression anxiety symptoms.

Also, a gluten and sugar rich breakfast, whether from pancakes, muffins, or bagels, can cause a blood sugar spike, which leads to a blood sugar crash later in the day, causing fatigue and depression.

Ideally you should eat breakfast within an hour of waking up.  And, in order to maintain steady blood sugar levels, you should also eat healthy snacks in between meals.
