Children T.V. Diet Exercise Depression AnxietyChildren who spend more time in front of the TV, exercise less, and eat junk food have higher rates of depression anxiety.

A study done by Public Health England, to determine the well being of U.K. children has found a direct correlation between the amount of time a child spends watching TV or playing video games, the amount of exercise they engage in, and the quality of their diet, on their likelihood of having depression anxiety.

The relationship between children, t.v. video games, exercise and diet is dose dependent.

Meaning that the more time a child spends watching t.v. or playing video games the high their rate of depression anxiety.  The less time a child spends exercising the higher their rate of depression anxiety.  The more sugary drinks and junk food a child consumes the higher their rate of depression anxiety.

This is news parents can use to help their children and teens who may be experiencing depression anxiety or other mood and learning difficulties.  Parents can have a profoundly positive impact on the well being and happiness of their children and teens by regulating these three factors in their children’s lives.

  • T.V., Video Games, Social Media
  • Exercise
  • Junk Food and Diet

By simply reducing the amount of time their child spends watching t.v. and playing video games, increasing the amount of time their child engages in physical activity, reducing the amount of junk food their child consumes and improving the quality of their diet, parents can dramatically improve the health and happiness of their child.

What this means for parents, is that instead of automatically running to their doctor, who will most likely prescribe pills to address their children’s mood disorders, which work no better than placebos, and have serious side effects including a higher risk of suicide, parents can naturally improve their child’s mental health and happiness.

On a related side note, parents of children who have depression anxiety, should also investigate whether their child has a stomach bug, which could be the cause of their condition.  A recent study found that children who have frequent stomach aches have much higher rates of depression anxiety as adults.
